I'm Jo, a Wiltshire based pet dog trainer who specialises in using ethical, science based training methods. My mission is to help dogs and their humans to build unbreakable bonds, by teaching fun and effective training techniques.
My training is designed to aid you in developing your dogs behaviour at home, in company and out in the big wide world. I believe that we can live side by side with our animals and understand each other, the same way we do with our families. It is up to us to teach them - and enable them - to have a good life; after all, they don't get to choose how they live.
The IMDT’S training approach is based on proven, ethical, and science-based teaching methods. All my training methods are about building a bond, trust and respect between you and your dog using food, toys, and affection to grow confidence and strengthen learning. Dogs repeat what works so we look to reward the behaviours we want.
I offer regular group classes and 1:1 training sessions.
Group classes are designed to be fun, engaging, interactive and rewarding for both you and your dog. Classes take place in a private venue with offroad parking. Learning in a large group can be daunting for both dog and handler, so we keep class sizes small to create a relaxed and judgement-free atmosphere, with like-minded owners. Due to small class sizes, 1:1 trainer support is provided throughout and we have regular question time during classes. Our 6 week courses are great for those looking for structure and continuity in their training, and detailed notes plus occasional training videos are sent out following each class, recapping everything covered.
Each 1:1 consultation is adapted to address specific issues you are having with your dog or puppy.
Commonly, I'm asked to help with loose lead walking, recall, barking, dogs that jump up, helping a rescue dog settle into a new home, setting a new puppy into the home or new-dog-owner confidence.
Working on a 1:1 level helps you to truly understand your dog or puppy’s behaviour, and how your approach can positively influence this. In a 1:1 session you can ask all the questions you want, in confidence.
